Consider first the following from the revelation of St. Bridget
"Therefore, because I see and know all things, you might ask me why I do not take evildoers away before they fall into the depths of sin. I myself asked the question and I myself will answer it for you: I am the Creator of all things, and all things are foreknown to me. I know and see all that has been and all that will be. But, although I know and can do all things, still, for reasons of justice, I no more interfere with the natural constitution of the body than I do with the inclination of the soul. Each human being continues in existence according to the natural constitution of the body such as it is and was from all eternity in my foreknowledge. The fact that one person has a longer life and another a shorter has to do with natural strength or weakness and is related to a person's physical constitution. It is not due to my foreknowledge that one person loses his sight or another becomes lame or something like that, since my foreknowledge of all things is such that no one is the worse for it, nor is it harmful to anyone. Moreover, these things do not occur because of the course and position of the heavenly elements, but due to some hidden principle of justice in the constitution and conservation of nature. For sin and natural disorder bring about the deformity of the body in many ways. This does not happen because I will it directly, but because I permit it to happen for the sake of justice. Even though I can do all things, still I do not obstruct justice. Accordingly, the length or brevity of a person's life is related to the weakness or strength of his physical constitution such as it was in my foreknowledge that no one can contravene....
If I took anyone away against the body's natural constitution, the devil would have grounds of accusation against me. Accordingly, in order that the devil might not find anything in me that goes against justice in the least, I no more interfere with the natural constitution of the body than I do with the constitution of the soul.... Sometimes it does happen that people are taken away earlier than their natural physical constitution would normally allow, for example, through homicide, drunkenness, and things of that kind. This is because the devil's wickedness is such that the sinner in this case would receive an extremely long-lasting punishment if he were to continue in the world for any great length of time. Therefore, some people are taken away earlier than their natural physical condition would allow due to the demands of justice and because of their sins. Their removal has been foreknown to me from all eternity, and it is impossible for anyone to contravene my foreknowledge. Sometimes good people are also taken away earlier than their natural physical constitution would allow. Because of the great love I have toward them, and because of their burning love and their efforts to discipline the body for my sake, justice sometimes requires that they be taken away, as foreknown to me from all eternity. Thus, I no more interfere with the natural constitution of the body than I do with the constitution of the soul....
Know, then, that a person dies a contemptible and evil death when he dies while living a dissolute life and with the intention of sinning, when he has worldly success and desires to live for a long time but does not remember to give thanks to God. A person lives and dies happily who loves God with his whole heart, though he may be struck down by a despicable death or afflicted by a chronic illness, because his harsh death lessens his sins as well as the punishment for sin and increases his reward."
This is the answer to the philosophical problem of evil, if you didn't find the answer, read it again.
A common response when you tell an atheist that God is good is that if God is so good then why doesn't He stop the bad people? Why do innocent people suffer? Why the good die young? The bad live long lives? Essentially, why doesn't God control every aspect of our lives to make us behave or force us to recognize Him.
These questions however are usually disingenuous. The answers are right there in the text above, and I'm not going to try to explain them better than that. But the people who deny God's presence in their lives have not sought it. They have not asked. They have not knocked and knocked until the late hour of the night. And they tell themselves that every indication of God's providence is coincidence. "they accept good things from God but not evil things" but it's God's fault when it's an evil thing but it's a coincidence when it's a good thing. There's no gratitude for the greatest gift from God we have, a chance at heaven, but not a chance, an inheritance if only we are baptized if just through desire.
There is a story from St. Faustina, when she would work in the kitchen, her health was poor and she struggled to lift a pot off the stove. Christ asked her once, why do you never ask for help? If you are struggling: "come to me all ye who are burdened and I will give you rest". Yes, you will have "Moderate and endurable exertion" as the revelation of St Bridget puts it, but it is incomparable to the reward.
This brings me to how people place a kind of faith in statistics and observations as a whole. Seeing how there are three ways a person can die from above: firstly, from natural causes/constitution, secondly, the sinner who would receive an extremely long-lasting punishment if he were to continue in the world for any great length of time. and thirdly because of their burning love justice sometimes requires that they be taken away, as foreknown to me from all eternity. Thus, we can deduce nothing about a person from when he dies. But God knows and knows from all eternity. Because we cannot know a reason, in our pride we want to say it's because God has no reason. And these observations are thence nearly meaningless to us.
Take for example hominid fossils. The extrapolation archeologists make off of some fossilized bones in the ground is extraordinary. It's like playing an academic version of D&D. Make whatever up that you can't disprove. Then lets teach it to the kids in middle school, that'll show 'em. The only reason a worldwide flood isn't plausible to these people is because it requires God. That's it. They believe wholeheartedly far more ridiculous things. Like the big bang theory. So you're telling me it's easier to believe there was nothing up until 13 trillion years ago then that nothing borrowed energy from the future or something and now here we are, just a fancy chemical reaction that we call biological, and somehow we have a soul i.e. a consciousness. I think therefore I'm not a chemical reaction. Lunacy! And because we can find a couple rocks with little circles that look like it could be a colony of bispecialized cells, bam, evolution is proven. Survival of the fittest, because there's definitely a series of little tiny steps between single cellular to multicellular where through each step the fitness of the animal increases. Even though we can't even hypothesize such a series. The inbetween will always be less fit. And somehow it has to happen in pairs because sexual reproduction. "well a lot can happen in a million year"
There was a house in altadena California that survived the fire this month. Only one in the neighborhood. It was blessed by the Church. "A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand fall at your right, you it will never approach" Statistics are statistics (except when they're fabricated by some powerful unnamed entity for political purposes). Statistics don't make anything happen. If you're in a room with a hundred people and 99 are going to go to hell, you could still be the one saved and if 99 are going to heaven, you could still be the one damned. God is just. Believe that. You will get your just reward, be it heaven or hell.
Recently the old president of planned parenthood died of some rare incurable brain cancer with an average 12 month life expectancy after diagnosis. Coincidink! How's that song go, "imagine theres no heaven"
Proof of God is there if you look for it. "If I had not done among them works that no other man hath done, they should not have sin: but now both they have seen, and they do hate both me and my Father."
Do not be so ready to believe Satan the father of lies or his children.
